June 7, Tour de Cure: The 17th annual St. Louis Tour de Cure, a fund-raiser for the American Diabetes Association will take place at the Raging Rivers water park in Grafton. Routes of 16, 50 and 100 miles are available. For more information, visit the ride's Web site.

June 15-21, Grand Illinois Trail and Parks bicycle ride: The League of Illinois Bicyclists puts on its sixth annual tour of northern Illinois on the Grand Illinois Trail and other roads. For more information, visit LIB's Web site.

June 16-20, Katy Trail Ride: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources puts on its annual tour of the Katy Trail. For more information, visit the ride's Web site.

July 11, Tour de Belleville: The third annual nighttime ride will roll through the city of Belleville, Ill., Proceeds will be used to purchase flashing lights at busy intesections along the city's bike trails.

July 12, Tour de Donut: The Boeing Employees Bicycle Club's 20th annual Tour de Donut will roll out of Staunton, Ill, at 9 a.m. The 32-mile event include two donut stops, where people can get a 5-minute bonus for each donut eaten. Sept 6, D.A.R.E. to Ride to the Lake: The Trenton (Ill.) Police Department. Day of ride registration begins at 7 a.m. Routes of 11, 25, 50 and 62 miles are available. If you register before Aug. 20, the cost of the ride is $15 and includes a T-shirt and other goodies. Day of ride registration is $20. for more information, visit the ride's Web site.

Sept. 27, Tour de Coal: The Coal Country Chamber of Commerce will put on the third annual Tour de Coal in Benld, Ill. Routes of 15, 30 and 63 miles are available. For more information, visit the ride's Web site.

Oct. 17-19, Hilly Hundred: This two-day tour of the scenic -- and hilly -- countryside near Bloomington, Ind., has long been a favorite ride for many of our members. For more information, visit the ride's Web site.

Sunday, May 25, BABES Winery Ride: The Belleville Area Bicycling and Eating Society will explore the rural roads of Clinton, St. Clair and Madison counties on this rural ride based at the Hidden Lake Winery near Aviston, Ill. We will have three routes ranging from 15 to about 40 miles on flat to mildly rolling roads. To get to Hidden Lake from downtown St. Louis, take U.S. 40/I-64 East, to I-64 East (exit 2), to Albers Road (exit 34), turn left on Aviston/Albers Road, go through the town of Albers, turn left on Highline Road, then turn left on Wellen Road. Gerry FrierdichSunday, June 1, The Gerry Frierdich Road to Recovery Bicycle Ride: The Belleville Area Bicycling and Eating Society, the Touring Cyclist bicycle shop and Friends of Gerry will be putting on a fundraiser for Gerry Frierdich, a Belleville photographer and a recumbent cyclist who was a regular on our rides. Gerry was critically injured Aug. 19, 2007, when a pickup truck struck his bicycle on Greenmount Road in Belleville.

The ride will begin and end at Central Junior High School, 1801 Central School Rd., in Belleville, Ill. (Google map) Routes of 5, 15, 30 and 50 miles are available. Include with the ride is a special bike ride T-shirt, rest stops with snacks and water, live music and SAG support by The Touring Cyclist.

The cost of the ride is $25 for adults, $15 for children 13-17 and $5 for children 12 and under. You can sign up for the ride in one of three ways:

  • Online through Active.com.
  • Download this PDF form and mail your check and registration at the address shown.
  • Day-of-ride registration at Central Junior High School.

If you are unable to attend the ride, but like to make a donation, you can make an online donation through Active.com.
