While BABES rides are open to cyclists of all skill levels, it's helpful if you feel comfortable with reading maps and following road signs before attending one of our rides. But if you aren't, we will help you become a more self-sufficient cyclist! |
About usThe Belleville Area Bicycling and Eating Society, more commonly known as the BABES, is a loosely organized bicycling group that conducts bicycle rides near Belleville, Ill. Most of our rides are on lightly traveled rural roads in St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties of Illinois. We are affiliated with the Gateway Council of Hostelling International, which is based in St. Louis. BABES rides are free for Gateway Council members and $3 for nonmembers. Our primary ride is the Wednesday Evening Ride, which we do weekly from mid-April until mid-September. We usually have two or three routes ranging from 12-25 miles. After the ride, we go to a nearby restaurant for dinner. This is how we earned our name. Male and female cyclists of every skill level are welcome on our rides, and we do our best to make sure no one is left behind. |
